Construction craft Laborers perform a wide range of physically demanding tasks on Building and Highway Construction, tunnels, hazardous material removal, environmental remediation and demolition.

Construction Craft Laborers are increasingly expected to have knowledge skills and competencies in using, managing and understanding new and in use technologies in the construction industry.

Labor Education and Training

Laborers Local 169 co-sponsors a joint Labor Management Training and Apprenticeship Program. The program provides both hands on and in class training and instruction to journeyman and apprentice construction craft laborers, which includes:
  • Apprenticeship training to prepare skilled workers of the construction industry
  • Journeyman training, skill upgrades and refreshers to help workers develop new skills and enhance existing ones
  • Safety training and certification of instruction to provide the safest and most productive workers in the industry
  • Specialty training to meet a specific need of a signatory contactor with flexibility to meet new and changing demands in the industry
